Super Eagles begin preparations ahead Iran, Jordan friendlies

The Super Eagles have begun their build-up to upcoming international friendlies against Iran and Jordan, opening camp with their first training session on Wednesday night in Antalya, Turkey, according to reports.

A total of 22 players were involved in the workout, which was supervised by head coach Éric Chelle as preparations officially got underway.

The squad had arrived and set up their training base in Antalya on Tuesday ahead of both fixtures.

Nigeria will complete their final training session on Thursday before facing Iran’s national team, known as Team Melli, in the first of the two friendlies.

It will be only the third senior-level meeting between the Super Eagles and Iran.

Their last encounters include a 1-0 win for Nigeria at the Carlsberg Cup in Hong Kong in January 1998, thanks to a second-half strike from former striker Ahmed Garba, while their other meeting at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil ended goalless in Curitiba.

Friday’s match against Iran is scheduled to kick off at 4pm local time, which is 2pm in Nigeria.
