Two-time Wimbledon champion, Carlos Alcaraz, on Tuesday announced that he will miss next month’s grass-court Grand Slam tournament as he continues to recover from a lingering wrist injury.
The Spanish star sustained the injury to his right wrist during the Barcelona Open last month and had already withdrawn from the French Open, which begins this weekend. Alcaraz had lifted the clay-court title in each of the previous two editions.
“My recovery is going well and I’m feeling much better,” Alcaraz posted on his social media accounts, “but unfortunately I’m still not ready to compete.”
Earlier this year, Alcaraz captured the Australian Open title, becoming the youngest male player to complete a career Grand Slam by winning all four major tournaments.
The 22-year-old claimed consecutive Wimbledon crowns in 2023 and 2024 after defeating Novak Djokovic in both finals.
However, he was beaten in last year’s final by Jannik Sinner in what has become one of tennis’ most exciting modern rivalries.
“They are two truly special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot,” Alcaraz said of missing Wimbledon and the Queen’s Club warm-up tournament in London. “We’ll keep working to come back as soon as possible!”
