Sokoto gov gives pilgrims N450,000 Sallah package in Saudi Arabia

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has approved the distribution of 1,000 Saudi Riyals, estimated at about N450,000, to each of the 2,410 pilgrims from the state participating in the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

The donation was announced on Thursday in Mina by the Sokoto State Amirul Hajj, Muhammad Mai Gari Dingyadi, who said the gesture was intended to support the pilgrims as they conclude the religious exercise and prepare for their return to Nigeria.

Dingyadi explained that the financial assistance was part of the state government’s welfare package for the pilgrims during the Sallah celebration.

“Governor Ahmed Aliyu has graciously approved the sum of 1,000 Saudi Riyals for every pilgrim from Sokoto State as a Sallah gift to ease their expenses while in Saudi Arabia and support their journey back home,” he said.

The Amirul Hajj also praised the conduct of the Sokoto pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage, noting that they had maintained discipline and complied with the laws of Saudi Arabia.

“We are pleased with the exemplary behaviour of our pilgrims. They have represented Sokoto State positively, and none of them has been found wanting in violating the rules and regulations of the host country,” Dingyadi stated.

He urged the pilgrims to maintain the same level of discipline until the completion of the Hajj rites and their return to Nigeria.

According to him, the administration of Governor Aliyu remains committed to improving the welfare of Sokoto residents, including those undertaking religious obligations.

“The present administration is committed to the wellbeing of the people and will continue to provide support where necessary, including for pilgrims representing the state,” he added.

Dingyadi further encouraged the pilgrims to pray for peace, stability, and development in Sokoto State and the country at large.

“I appeal to all pilgrims to remember Sokoto State and Nigeria in their prayers and seek divine guidance and peace for the success of the government and security of the nation,” he said.
