Super Eagles midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, made his Serie A debut for Lazio on Sunday, but his side fell 2-0 away to newly-promoted Como in their opening game of the season.
Dele-Bashiru started the encounter and was withdrawn with 15 minutes left on the clock.
The result lifted Como to the top of the standings, while Lazio find themselves languishing in 19th place after the first round of fixtures.
In France, fellow Nigerian international Chidozie Awaziem was also in action as Nantes suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
Awaziem, who only sealed a move to Nantes this summer, played the entire duration of the match.
Emmanuel Emegha’s late strike, nine minutes from time, proved the difference, condemning Nantes to a second straight defeat and leaving them 15th in the 18-team table.
