Vice President Kashim Shettima has strongly condemned the recent Boko Haram attack on Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, which claimed dozens of lives, including those of five soldiers.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, on Monday, Shettima expressed deep sympathy to the victims’ families and assured that the Federal Government will ensure justice is served.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots,” the Vice President said.

“These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families.”

He noted that President Bola Tinubu had already directed a review of security operations across the country, including the deployment of additional military hardware, drones, and surveillance equipment to troubled areas.

“The President has approved the acquisition of more drones and instructed security agencies to intensify and review their operational strategies,” Shettima stated.

The Vice President also hinted at ongoing discussions on the creation of state police, stressing that localized security units could better handle unique challenges in some parts of the country.

“Some security challenges require specialised units that understand local terrain and culture, and can effectively network at the grassroots level,” he explained.

Shettima prayed for the repose of the victims and pledged that the Federal Government would continue to stand by the people of Borno State.

Reports indicated that at least 63 people were killed in the Friday night assault, which saw insurgents riding on motorcycles storm the community, shooting indiscriminately and setting homes, shops, and vehicles ablaze.
