AS Roma began their Serie A campaign in impressive fashion after cruising to a 4-0 victory over Lecce at the Via del Mare on Monday.
Roma wasted little time taking control of the encounter, with Donyell Malen opening the scoring inside four minutes.
The forward collected the ball on the right side of the box before calmly finding the bottom corner.
Malen doubled Roma’s advantage in the 23rd minute after being set up by Wesley, putting the visitors firmly in command.
Just two minutes later, Matías Soulé added a third.
His initial effort was saved, but the Argentine reacted quickly to the rebound and fired into the net to give Roma a commanding lead before halftime.
Lecce struggled to cope with Roma’s attacking pressure and were unable to mount a meaningful response as the visitors continued to dictate proceedings after the break.
Roma eventually added a fourth in the 65th minute through substitute Rodrigo Mora.
The youngster finished from close range after being picked out by Gianluca Mancini.
Despite Lecce showing more attacking intent in the second half, Roma remained composed and comfortably protected their advantage until the final whistle.
Mario Hermoso was particularly impressive for the visitors, combining composure in possession with strong defensive work as Roma maintained control throughout the contest.
Malen was also a standout performer, finishing with two goals as Roma’s attack proved too much for the hosts.
The emphatic win gives Roma an early boost in Serie A, while Lecce will have to regroup after suffering a heavy defeat on home soil.
