Napoli were held to a 0-0 draw by Parma at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, with Scott McTominay seeing a first-half goal ruled out.
The match offered the Partenopei a chance to close in on Serie A leaders Inter, who sit three points ahead, but Napoli remain third.
Suspended coach Antonio Conte watched from the stands as his side struggled to break down a resolute Parma defence.
McTominay thought he had given Napoli the lead in the 11th minute. After Alessandro Circati’s clearance hit the post, McTominay reacted quickly to slot in the rebound on his second attempt.
However, VAR intervened and disallowed the goal due to an offside in the build-up involving Paquale Mazzocchi.
Napoli continued to create chances. Alessandro Buongiorno headed straight at goalkeeper Filippo Rinaldo from close range, while Rasmus Hojlund also saw a strong stop.
In the second half, McTominay and Noa Lang both had efforts blocked as Napoli pressed for a breakthrough. Late in the game, Amir Rrahmani fired a tight-angle shot over the bar from the right side of the box, but Parma’s disciplined backline held firm.
Despite dominating possession and creating numerous opportunities, Napoli could not capitalize.
They registered 16 shots with an expected goals (xG) of 1.39, yet only four efforts were on target. The visitors had just four touches in their own penalty area, compared to Napoli’s 45, and the hosts completed 93 entries into the final third, highlighting their attacking dominance.
This draw marks the second consecutive 0-0 result between these sides in Serie A, while Napoli have now recorded three straight stalemates in the league for the first time since February 2025.
The Partenopei’s inability to convert chances may complicate their pursuit of Inter at the top of the table.
