Serie A: Napoli beat Lecce 2-1 in comeback win

Napoli came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over relegation-threatened Lecce at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, thanks to a decisive Matteo Politano strike, marking their third consecutive Serie A win.

Lecce, who had lost their previous two matches, started brightly, taking the lead inside three minutes. Defender Jamil Siebert rose highest to meet Danilo Veiga’s corner, heading past a helpless Alex Meret.

Despite Napoli controlling possession in the first half, Lecce remained dangerous on the break.

Lameck Banda almost doubled the visitors’ lead midway through the half, cutting inside before seeing his effort blocked by Mathias Olivera. Napoli’s best opening came from Politano, whose counter-attack attempt rattled the side netting.

The Partenopei responded immediately after the interval. Bobby Gilmour exploited space to deliver a precise through ball to Politano, whose cross found Rasmus Hojlund, allowing Napoli to equalize as Wladimir Falcone failed to intervene.

Napoli continued to press, with Kevin De Bruyne setting up Alisson Santos just after the hour, only for Falcone to make a crucial save.

But the breakthrough came moments later when Napoli converted a corner: a looping header fell to Politano, who volleyed first-time into the net to give his side the lead.

Lecce’s hopes dwindled as Banda was stretchered off, leaving them a man down with no substitutions left. The visitors failed to mount a significant response.

The win extends Napoli’s unbeaten streak against Lecce to eight matches (six wins, two draws) and keeps them the only Serie A side undefeated at home this season.

For Lecce, it is their third defeat in four games, though they remain three points above the relegation zone.
