Inter Milan came from behind to beat Bologna 3-1 on Saturday, retaining top spot in Serie A with a second-half comeback at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
Cristian Chivu’s side recovered from an early setback to secure all three points, with Marcus Thuram, Carlos Augusto and Ange-Yoan Bonny scoring for the visitors.
The victory takes Inter to 19 points from seven matches, keeping them at the summit ahead of second-placed Lazio’s clash with Juventus on Sunday.
Bologna took the lead in the ninth minute when Tommaso Pobega fired past Inter goalkeeper Josep Martinez after Juan Miranda won possession from Luis Henrique and set up the midfielder.
The hosts nearly doubled their advantage in the 40th minute, but Pobega struck the crossbar after Martinez had parried Nicolo Cambiaghi’s effort.
Inter capitalised on the missed opportunity four minutes later as Nicolo Barella delivered a pinpoint cross for Thuram, who headed into the top corner to level the score before the break.
The visitors pushed for a second goal before half-time, but Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski produced a fine save to deny Francesco Pio Esposito’s header.
Inter continued to apply pressure after the restart, although Esposito missed a close-range chance while Petar Sucic failed to trouble Skorupski with a weak effort.
Chivu’s substitutions proved decisive in the 69th minute when Carlos Augusto, shortly after coming on, arrived at the far post to convert Piotr Zielinski’s cross and put Inter ahead.
Inter threatened to extend their lead moments later, but Sucic struck the outside of the post after Skorupski had saved Bonny’s attempt.
Bonny thought he had sealed the win in the 82nd minute, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.
The forward made amends a minute later, finishing emphatically from Carlos Augusto’s cross to secure Inter’s 3-1 victory.
Inter Substitutes Deliver
Inter’s substitutes made the difference, with Carlos Augusto scoring once and setting up Bonny’s goal to cap an influential performance off the bench.
Bonny also continued his productive run as a substitute, adding another goal to his tally this season.
The victory highlights Inter’s attacking strength and ability to respond under pressure, as they overturned Bologna’s early lead to maintain their position at the top of Serie A.
Chivu’s men will take confidence from the comeback as they seek to sustain their strong start to the campaign.
