Atalanta and Frosinone played out an entertaining 4-4 draw in the Italian Serie A on Sunday, with both sides scoring twice in each half of an eight-goal thriller.
Romano Schmid scored twice for Frosinone, while Nikola Krstovic also netted a brace for Atalanta in a contest that saw the lead change hands and both teams create several opportunities to claim victory.
Frosinone took the lead inside the opening minute after Schmid capitalised on a poor back-pass from Ederson and calmly finished to put the visitors ahead.
Atalanta responded in the 14th minute when Krstovic converted a pass from Charles De Ketelaere.
Schmid restored Frosinone’s advantage three minutes later, finishing a move set up by Fares Ghedjemis.
Atalanta drew level again in the 33rd minute after Ederson converted a penalty awarded for handball against Giorgio Cittadini.
The hosts completed their comeback shortly before half-time when Krstovic struck again, meeting Davide Zappacosta’s low cross to give Atalanta a 3-2 lead.
However, Frosinone equalised three minutes after the restart through Giacomo Calò, who fired into the far top corner.
Atalanta regained the lead in the 50th minute as Eljif Elmas finished from close range after De Ketelaere and Krstovic combined to create the opportunity.
The hosts subsequently missed chances to extend their advantage, with Frosinone goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani making important saves.
Frosinone eventually secured a point in the 82nd minute when Aleksa Terzic converted from 12 yards after a move involving Schmid and Ghedjemis.
Both sides continued to push for a winner in the closing stages, but neither could find another goal.
The draw extended Atalanta’s difficult run of form, having lost four of their previous five Serie A matches.
They also entered the fixture following a 2-0 defeat to Ajax in the Conference League on Thursday.
Frosinone, meanwhile, continued their impressive start to the campaign following promotion from Serie B.
They had collected 13 points from their opening six league matches before Sunday’s encounter, with Napoli their only conquerors during that period.
