Tennis legend, Serena Williams, has opened up about the struggles she faced on her path to winning the US Open, admitting that her journey was far from easy.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Stockton Street Podcast alongside her sister, Venus Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion reflected on how hard work and manifestation shaped her success.
Serena revealed that their father, Richard Williams, once asked them to choose a tournament they wanted to win and commit to it.
“You picked Wimbledon,” she recalled saying to Venus. “Then dad said I had to pick something different, so I chose the US Open, but honestly, I didn’t think I’d ever win it.”
She went on to describe her early struggles on the court, “I was terrible. I only hit lobs. Even when I turned pro, I didn’t think I was that good. I just tried to outlast people because I was small and thought I could stay out there longer.”
Despite her doubts, Serena’s persistence and belief in her goals eventually paid off, turning what once felt impossible into one of the most decorated careers in tennis history.
