Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury’s fight can’t be stopped – Hearn

British boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn, has insisted that the highly anticipated Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua showdown will take place, despite Fury recently casting doubt on the bout.

Fury suggested on Friday that the proposed fight was unlikely to happen, but Hearn, who promotes Joshua, said a contract has already been signed and there is no reason for the contest to collapse.

“We’ve signed the contract, we’re waiting for a date. You saw Tyson Fury shouting and screaming … there’s nothing to shout and scream about, the fight’s done,” Hearn told DAZN.

“The fight’s signed. No-one can pull out of the fight. You can’t just pull out of a contract.

“There’s no suggestion that the fight’s not happening, no-one can stop this fight from happening. The only way it can stop from happening is if they actually breach the contract.”

Fury and Joshua were initially expected to meet in November in what would rank among the biggest fights in British boxing history.

Joshua and Hearn have agreed to stage the bout in the United Kingdom, but Saudi organisers Sela are reportedly pushing for the event to be moved to the United States.

Both fighters have separate agreements with Sela, with New York’s Madison Square Garden reportedly the preferred venue because the fight will be streamed on Netflix and organisers want to reach a larger American audience.

Hearn said he understands the preference for the United States but made it clear that his priority is to have the contest staged in Britain.

“We know everybody and his dog involved in the fight wants to do the fight in America. We don’t,” added Hearn.

“We’ve told Sela and the team ‘if you want to do it in America, these are the terms that we can move forward with. But we’d rather not please’.”
