Super Eagles defender, Semi Ajay,i is set to miss Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa in September due to a hamstring injury.

The Hull City centre-back picked up the injury during last weekend’s Sky Bet Championship match against Coventry City.

Ajayi had been rested for Hull’s Carabao Cup clash against Wrexham United earlier in the week as a precautionary measure.

However, scans have revealed further damage, and the 31-year-old is now expected to spend several weeks on the sidelines.

According to Hulldailymail, Ajayi could be out for four to six weeks.

It is worth noting that Ajayi struggled with hamstring injuries on two occasions last season and made just 15 appearances during his final campaign with West Bromwich Albion.

Nigeria will face Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, 6 September, before taking on South Africa three days later at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
