Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, made his much-anticipated Galatasaray debut on Friday night, coming off the bench in the 61st minute to help his side cruise to a 3-0 win over Fatih Karagumruk in the Turkish Super Lig.
The Super Eagles forward, sidelined for the opening day victory against Gaziantep due to match fitness concerns, was handed his first run-out of the season by coach Okan Buruk.
He wasted no time making his presence felt, going down under a challenge in the box just two minutes after entering the fray, but the referee waved play on.
Galatasaray had already taken control early in the match, with Baris Alper Yilmaz opening the scoring in the 10th minute with a neat low finish.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 74th minute when Karagumruk defender Fatih Kurucuk turned the ball into his own net.
Mauro Icardi put the result beyond doubt in the 87th minute, slotting home from close range after a Lucas Torreira assist.
Osimhen came close to opening his account in the 70th minute, drawing a strong save from goalkeeper Ivo Grbic with a driven shot.
He thought he had scored in the 78th minute, only for his effort to be chalked off for offside. Minutes later, an 80th-minute header whistled just wide as the Nigerian showcased his trademark aerial threat.
Though he couldn’t find the net, Osimhen’s lively cameo hinted at what Galatasaray fans can expect as he works toward full match sharpness.
