Music icon Sean “Diddy” Combs is seeking a presidential pardon from former President Donald Trump as he awaits sentencing in October following his conviction on prostitution-related charges, his legal team has confirmed.
Nicole Westmoreland, one of Combs’ attorneys, revealed during a CNN interview on Tuesday that efforts have been made to engage the former president on the matter.
“It’s my understanding that we’ve reached out and had conversations in reference to a pardon,” Westmoreland stated.
However, Trump has shown little enthusiasm for granting clemency to the 55-year-old entertainment mogul.
“I was very friendly with him. I got along with him great and he seemed like a nice guy,” Trump told Newsmax in an interview on Friday. “I didn’t know him well, but when I ran for office, he was very hostile.”
Pressed on whether that would affect his decision, Trump responded: “I would say so, yeah.”
Combs was found guilty last month by a New York jury on two counts of transportation with intent to engage in prostitution.
Each count carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. He was acquitted of more severe charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking, following a lengthy trial that featured disturbing allegations.
His sentencing is scheduled for October 3.
