The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Benibo Anabraba, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Anabraba’s decision was conveyed in a resignation letter dated January 5, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1 in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
In the letter, the SSG described his exit from the party as a personal decision, without citing internal disputes or political disagreements.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party. This decision is personal,” Anabraba stated.
He, however, expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities and political exposure it afforded him during his time as a member.
“I sincerely appreciate the political leverage and support I gained from the party throughout the period of my membership,” he added.
While Anabraba did not disclose his next political destination in the letter, credible sources indicated that the Rivers State SSG is considering a move to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
His resignation comes amid continued realignments within the political landscape of Rivers State and the South-South region, where several high-profile defections have been recorded in recent months.
As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State PDP leadership had yet to issue an official response to Anabraba’s resignation.
