The House of Representatives’ Committee on Constitution Review will today hold a crucial Legislative Dialogue on National Security Architecture in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The high-level meeting, themed “Nigeria’s Peace and Security: The Constitutional Imperatives,” will take place at the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Abuja.

House Spokesman Akin Rotimi confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the event will gather Nigeria’s top security leadership, including National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, DSS Director-General Oluwatosin Ajayi, and NIA Director-General Amb. Mohammed Mohammed.

The dialogue will also bring together legal experts, policy specialists, civil society organizations, community leaders from conflict-prone regions, and federal lawmakers. This forms part of the House’s strategic initiative to tackle Nigeria’s multifaceted security challenges through constitutional amendments, particularly through legislative proposals like *HB-617* – the bill seeking to establish state police and restructure Nigeria’s security framework.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who chairs the Constitution Review Committee, will preside over the session. The event will feature goodwill messages from House Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and a keynote address by President Bola Tinubu in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

This security dialogue comes amid rising national concerns about terrorism, banditry, and communal conflicts, with legislative leaders emphasizing the need for constitutional reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture. The inclusion of frontline community leaders signals an effort to incorporate grassroots perspectives into national security policymaking.
