The African Democratic Congress has demanded the resignation of Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal if he fails to tackle the escalating insecurity in the state.
The call was made by the party’s state chairman, Alhaji Kabiru Garba, during the ADC’s “Hand Shake Day” event held at Maryam Hall in Gusau on Monday.
Garba expressed grave concerns over the persistent bandit attacks ravaging Zamfara, accusing Governor Lawal of failing to safeguard lives and property. “It is high time the Governor provided a lasting solution to the insecurity bedeviling the state. Otherwise, he should resign,” he said.
The ADC chairman also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent action to address the worsening security crisis in Zamfara and other troubled regions of the country. He suggested that the state government explore negotiations with bandits as a possible path to peace. “We condemn the incessant attacks on our people and urge the government to take decisive steps. Let them talk to the bandits if that’s what will bring peace,” he added.
Garba further claimed that residents were losing confidence in the current administration and increasingly turning to the ADC for hope. He revealed that the party had registered over 75,000 new members in Zamfara, with a target of reaching 100,000 before the 2027 general elections.
“We have registered no fewer than 75,000 new members. The people of Zamfara have seen a brighter future in ADC. God willing, we are ready to rescue the state and Nigeria at large come 2027,” he stated.
