The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Character has issued a summons to the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, over accusations of biased recruitment practices in the federal civil service.
In a statement released on Thursday, the committee’s chairman, Rep. Idris Wase (APC-Plateau), said Olaopa’s repeated refusal to attend earlier sessions had forced the committee to take this step, expressing the panel’s growing frustration.
Wase stressed that the FCSC chairman must appear in person before the committee on July 30, warning of serious consequences should he fail to do so.
“The committee is not happy that the FCSC chairman had repeatedly ignored the panel’s invitations.
“Failure on the part of the commission to honour the last invitation by the committee would be meted with grave consequences,” he said.
The lawmaker also cited constitutional backing for the committee’s concerns, referencing Section 14(3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates adherence to federal character principles in federal appointments.
