The Kebbi State Police Command has debunked a viral social media post alleging that Christian children rescued from kidnappers were placed in a Muslim-run orphanage in Birnin Kebbi.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, dismissed the report as false, mischievous, and aimed at tarnishing the image of the police.

“The command categorically refutes the publication, condemning it as a mischievous narrative calculated to undermine the integrity, unwavering commitment, and professionalism of officers in their relentless efforts to combat crimes in Kebbi State,” Abubakar said.

The viral claim, reportedly made by a corps member, alleged that a four-year-old boy identified as Uzochukwu was discovered in an orphanage where he narrated that his kidnappers had been arrested, charged to court, and that the police subsequently placed him and other Christian children in the facility.

Abubakar described the account as entirely fabricated.

He urged members of the public to disregard the story, stressing that such misinformation could breed “disaffection and mistrust in society.”

He further warned individuals and groups against spreading unverified information, noting that the command remains committed to collaborating with credible media platforms to keep the public informed.

“The Kebbi State Police Command will not relent in working with genuine stakeholders, including journalists, to sensitise residents and tackle fake news capable of creating unnecessary tension,” he added.

The police reiterated their resolve to protect all citizens regardless of faith or background and called on the public to support security agencies in their fight against criminality.
