The Presidency has dismissed widespread reports suggesting a change in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, affirming that Senator George Akume remains in the position.
In a statement released to journalists, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, clarified the situation.
“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” he stated.
The clarification comes in response to several media reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu had appointed his Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, as the new SGF.
Onanuga emphasized that President Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia, has not announced any new appointments.
“President Bola Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.
“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it.
“The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news,” he added.
The statement, titled ‘Akume Remains SGF’, reaffirmed the administration’s position and cautioned the public against falling for misleading reports.
