Operatives of the Borno State Police Command have recovered 912 rounds of live ammunition concealed in the Kumshe Jamba Mari area of Maiduguri, the state capital.

The discovery was made on Saturday, January 4, 2026, following actionable intelligence received by the police. Acting on the tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer of Lamisula Division led a team of operatives to the location, where the ammunition was uncovered.

Confirming the development in a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the recovered items were B32 armour-piercing incendiary (API) ammunition of 7.62 x 51mm calibre.

“The Commissioner urges residents to sustain their cooperation with the police by promptly reporting suspicious activities in their communities, as intelligence-led policing remains critical to maintaining security in the state,” the statement read.

The development comes amid intensified security operations in Maiduguri and its environs, following recent recoveries of arms and ammunition by security agencies in parts of the state.
