The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has uncovered a suspected bandits’ hideout in Dajin Madam Forest, situated between Plateau and Bauchi states, where operatives recovered two FN FAL rifles and live ammunition.
The Punch reported that the discovery followed an investigation into the arrest of four suspects accused of supplying firearms, ammunition and illicit drugs to bandits.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said detectives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit carried out the operation on August 2 after acting on intelligence provided by one of the arrested suspects, Musbahu Ishaq.
According to her, information obtained during the investigation led officers to the forest, where the criminal network was believed to have established one of its operational camps.
“Further investigation established that Musbahu Ishaq obtained arms and ammunition from one Rabiu Hassan and supplied them to one Baba Alhaji Sanusi, a suspected bandit kingpin currently at large and believed to be hiding in a forest in Katsina State,” the statement read.
Adeh explained that a search of the hideout resulted in the recovery of the two rifles and live ammunition allegedly hidden within the forest.
She added that security operatives were continuing efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate, recover additional weapons linked to the group and ensure all those involved face prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Sanusi, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to dismantle the criminal network through sustained intelligence-driven operations.
“The command remains committed to intelligence-led policing, and ongoing operations will continue until all members of the syndicate are apprehended and brought to justice,” the statement added.
The command also appealed to members of the public to support security efforts by providing prompt and credible information to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
