The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a notorious kidnapper who had long evaded capture despite being on the Command’s wanted list for various criminal activities.
In a statement released to journalists in Lafia on Sunday, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Ranham Nansel, confirmed the arrest, describing it as the result of a sustained and focused manhunt by the Command.
The statement read, “The arrest of Abashed Gizo at the popular Shingle market, Cattle market in Lafia, was through an intelligence-led operation by the operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).”
The suspect, who had been wanted over multiple cases including kidnapping and cattle rustling, was finally tracked down and detained.
“The suspect, who has been on the Command’s wanted list for an extended period due to multiple offences, including kidnapping and cattle rustling,” the statement added.
During interrogation, Gizo reportedly admitted to his crimes and cooperated with investigators.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crimes and led officers to his hideout at Ruwan Baka village, Doma LGA, where one AK-49 rifle (Breach №453144) and a magazine were recovered in his possession,” the police spokespsrson said.
This arrest is also said to be linked to an earlier operation involving Fatima Salisu, who was caught transporting ammunition from Doma to Katsina State, allegedly for use by criminal networks.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, hailed the operation as a significant victory in the Command’s efforts to eliminate crime from the state. He reassured citizens of the Police’s continued dedication to public safety.
“The Command noted that the arrest is a breakthrough in connection with the arrest of Fatima Salisu, who was intercepted while transporting a cache of ammunition from Doma to Katsina State, intended for criminal elements,” Nansel noted.
Reiterating the Command’s resolve, CP Mohammed stated, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reaffirms the Command’s unwavering commitment to rooting out crime and ensuring the safety and security of all residents across Nasarawa State.”
He called on the public to support the Police by staying alert and reporting any suspicious movements as efforts to secure communities continue.
