A tragic road accident reportedly claimed seven lives along the Agaie-Badeggi route in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
The incident involved a truck transporting federal government grains and 36 male passengers who were en route from Lagos to Kano.
The crash occurred at Essa Community, resulting in significant casualties.
The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Abdullahi Baba Arah, confirmed the incident in an official statement.
He revealed that in addition to the fatalities, 16 individuals sustained injuries, 11 of them seriously, while five others suffered minor wounds.
He said, “NSEMA personnel, along with villagers and commuters, conducted search and rescue operations.”
The injured victims were immediately taken to healthcare centers in Badeggi and Agaie, while others were reportedly removed from the scene by their families for treatment elsewhere.
The NSEMA DG further attributed the cause of the crash to the dilapidated condition of the road, emphasizing that the unreconstructed portions of the Lambata-Bida axis played a significant role in the fatal incident.
