The Kano State Police Command has arrested 107 suspects in connection with armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, vehicle and motorcycle theft, and other criminal activities across the state in the past month.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

According to him, those arrested include eight armed robbery suspects, eight alleged kidnappers, three suspected human traffickers, 14 drug dealers, two vehicle thieves, six motorcycle thieves, five suspected thieves, and 61 suspected thugs locally known as Yan Daba.

He added that one victim of human trafficking was rescued during the operations.

Bakori further revealed that several dangerous weapons and items were recovered during the raids.

“We recovered one AK-47 rifle, seven fabricated guns, 11 live rounds of ammunition, seven motor vehicles, eight motorcycles, and seven cows,” he said.

“Other items recovered include 102 cutlasses, 74 knives, 111 parcels and 458 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, 211 bottles of suspected rubber solution, 257 bottles of ‘suck and die,’ and 44 pieces of textile materials,” the CP added.

He noted that the arrests and seizures were part of the ongoing Operation Kukan Kura, launched on July 1, 2025.

The initiative, he explained, combines both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to reduce crime through community engagement.

“In line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, we intensified our community-centred policing efforts. Operation Kukan Kura is designed to encourage public participation and collaboration in addressing criminal activities,” Bakori stated.

The police chief commended his officers for their commitment, assuring residents that the command would continue to innovate in tackling security threats.

“We will remain proactive in adapting our strategies to outpace criminal elements and ensure peace and stability across Kano State,” he pledged.
