A police inspector attached to the Sokoto State Police Command, Adamu Isah, has died after reportedly collapsing shortly after participating in the command’s weekly fitness exercise.
Isah, who served with the Department of Operations, was said to have returned to the command headquarters on Wednesday after the walkathon when he suddenly collapsed.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Sokoto State, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to him, the inspector was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention, but medical personnel later confirmed his death.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Shaffa, expressed sadness over the incident, describing Isah as a committed officer who served the country with dedication.
“The Sokoto State Police Command is deeply saddened by the sudden and painful loss of our colleague, Inspector Adamu Isah. He was a dedicated and gallant officer who served his fatherland with unwavering commitment and professionalism,” Shaffa said.
The commissioner added that Isah was actively involved in sports and represented the command as a member of its volleyball team, while also participating in boxing.
“His energy, discipline, and team spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him,” he added.
Shaffa said the deceased made significant contributions to the command’s operations and assured his family of the police authority’s support during the period of mourning.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his immediate family during this difficult time. We pray that the Almighty God grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the commissioner said.
He urged officers and other personnel of the command to remain committed to their duties while honouring the memory of the late inspector, and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
