Police deploy personnel, to tackle banditry in Bauchi communities

The Bauchi State Police Command has intensified security operations in parts of Alkaleri Local Government Area following renewed banditry threats, deploying a large number of personnel and advanced weaponry to restore calm.

The reinforcement targets Gwana, Digare and Kafin Duguri communities, where residents have recently expressed fears over rising insecurity.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Bauchi, Nafiu Habib, disclosed the development during a press briefing on Thursday, noting that the operation involves a coordinated effort among multiple security agencies.

He said, “Following a comprehensive security review, the Command, in synergy with other security agencies, has commenced a large-scale deployment of joint security personnel to the affected communities to suppress criminal activities and forestall any breakdown of law and order.”

According to Habib, the operation is being carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other relevant agencies, with the support of the Bauchi State Government.

He explained that the affected communities, particularly those bordering neighbouring states, have long grappled with infiltration by criminal elements.

“There has been a resurgence of security concerns in some border communities. However, our joint operations are already yielding positive outcomes,” he stated.

The police spokesman also addressed reports that residents of Mansur town had fled their homes over fears of possible attacks, assuring that the area remains secure.

“Despite incidents recorded in neighbouring districts, Mansur town remains safe and unaffected. There is no cause for alarm,” Habib said.

He added, “Massive deployments of security personnel and enhanced weaponry have been strategically positioned to maintain peace and stability. Our operatives are working around the clock to protect lives and property.”

Habib further conveyed the assurance of the Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, that security agencies would not allow bandits to establish a foothold in any part of the local government area.

“The Command remains resolute. There will be no safe haven for criminals in Alkaleri or any other part of the state,” he stressed.

He urged residents to support security efforts by volunteering timely and credible information.

“We appeal to members of the public to report suspicious movements, unfamiliar faces or objects in their communities. All information received will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” Habib added.

The Command encouraged residents to go about their lawful activities without fear, assuring that sustained security operations would continue until normalcy is fully restored.
