Police deny reports of kidney sales in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that some young people in Nyanya, Abuja, had sold their kidneys for money.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, made this known in a statement on Wednesday, saying the police had neither received nor confirmed any report concerning the alleged kidney sales.

Adeh said the clarification became necessary following social media posts claiming that youths living around Nyanya had been selling their kidneys and that an agent in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was buying the organs.

“The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature,” Adeh said.

She added, “No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command.”

The police spokesperson urged residents to disregard the reports and avoid sharing unverified information capable of creating fear and panic in the FCT.

Adeh, however, encouraged anyone with credible information about alleged human organ trafficking or other security concerns in the territory to report to the nearest police station.

Residents can also contact the FCT Police Command on 07038979348 or 08028940883.
