The Nigeria Police Force has disowned a viral “wanted” poster of Nollywood actress and businesswoman, Iyabo Ojo, describing it as fake and misleading.
The poster, which spread across social media platforms, falsely claimed that the actress had been declared wanted and that a cash reward would be given for information leading to her arrest.
But in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Thursday, the Force dismissed the claims, urging Nigerians to ignore the poster and stop circulating it.
“Fake news alert! This ‘wanted’ poster of actress Iyabo Ojo did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement read.
The NPF stressed that the information was fabricated and never originated from any of its verified platforms.
“It is false, misleading and was never posted on any official NPF platform. Disregard and stop spreading fake news. Verify only from official NPF channels,” the police added.
The Force also appealed to social media users to exercise caution in sharing unverified content, warning that spreading false information could mislead the public and damage reputations.
