The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 51-year-old man, Nnamdi Lazarus, over alleged conspiracy and child trafficking and rescued six children believed to have been abducted.
The suspect, who hails from Mbano in Imo State, was arrested in Uratta, Aba, following what the police described as credible intelligence.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Abia State, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Aba North, apprehended Lazarus after receiving information about his activities.
Chinaka said the suspect was found in possession of the children, stating that he was allegedly “harbouring and keeping the children.”
According to the police, all six children have since been rescued and reunited with their respective families.
The command said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals allegedly involved in the trafficking network.
The police added that Lazarus would be prosecuted after the completion of investigations.
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents through intelligence-led policing, assuring the public that there would be “no hiding place for criminal elements” in the state.
