The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a security guard, identified as Amos Kini, for allegedly abducting a two-year-old boy in the Elemoro area of the state.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the newly appointed Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspect was tracked and apprehended after days of intense manhunt.
According to Adebisi, the child’s mother had reported to the Elemoro Police Division on September 21, 2025, that Kini fled with her son and her mobile phone around 11:50 p.m.
“The suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the father of the child, demanding a ransom of five million naira for his release,” the command’s spokesperson said.
She explained that officers also questioned one Aruna Dauda, who stood as guarantor for Kini before his employment. The boy was eventually released, but detectives continued to pursue the suspect until he was arrested.
“On 23rd September, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m., operatives of the Tactical Squad (Hyena), acting on credible intelligence, successfully tracked and arrested Amos Kini at his hideout within the Elemoro area. The suspect has confessed to the crime and remains in custody. He will be charged to court after investigations,” Adebisi stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the act, describing it as “a wicked betrayal of trust.”
He added, “The command will not tolerate acts of abduction, extortion, or any violent crime. We are committed to protecting residents and ensuring offenders face the full weight of the law.”
The police also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency hotlines.
The incident comes weeks after the command confirmed that five bodies recovered along Oreta riverbank in the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu were victims of a cult-related attack, part of a series of violent crimes that have led to the arrest of more than 26 suspects.
