The Kano State Police Command has arrested eleven students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, in connection with the suspected murder of two fellow students within the school premises.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrests on Thursday.

He said the students were currently being interrogated to determine their individual roles in the tragic incident.

“Eleven students have been taken into custody in connection with the deaths. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the level of involvement of each suspect,” Haruna stated in a message to journalists.

The deceased students, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, were reportedly attacked with locally fabricated metal objects commonly referred to as “Gwale-Gwale.”

In reaction to the incident, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The directive was communicated through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Bappa Mohammad, during a visit to the school on Wednesday.

“We are committed to ensuring that justice is served, and we have directed a full probe to get to the root of this disturbing development,” said Mohammad.

The Police have promised that no effort will be spared in uncovering the truth and prosecuting all those found culpable.

“This is a grave matter, and we will ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” Haruna added.
