The Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, has apprehended a man identified as Musa Ali for allegedly posing as an operative of the security outfit to extort money from unsuspecting citizens.

In a statement issued by OPSH’s Media Information Officer, Major Samson Nantip, the suspect was accused of fraudulently presenting himself as a serving officer and collecting ₦400,000 from the family of a suspected gunrunner currently under investigation.

“Investigations revealed that Mr Ali falsely claimed he had the power to terminate ongoing investigations and secure the suspect’s release from custody,” Nantip said. “His fraudulent activities were swiftly uncovered by our operatives, leading to his arrest.”

Major Nantip stressed that OPSH maintains a strict policy against accepting money or favours to release suspects or halt criminal investigations.

“We wish to categorically state that OPSH does not, under any circumstances, demand payment for the release of suspects,” he stated. “All arrests are followed by thorough investigations in accordance with the law, with the aim of ensuring justice and preserving peace in our operational areas.”

According to the OPSH spokesperson, Ali will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded. He also urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudsters who claim to wield influence over security operations.

“OPSH, in collaboration with other security agencies on the Plateau, remains committed to working tirelessly with stakeholders and law-abiding citizens to eliminate criminality,” Nantip added.
