Plateau killing: Group demands Miyetti Allah probe over ‘reckless comment’

The Plateau Patriotic Front has urged authorities to investigate comments allegedly made by the National Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Bello Gotomo, concerning the recent spate of killings in Plateau State.

In a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja, the group’s National Coordinator, Mani Imman, condemned Gotomo’s alleged remarks, which reportedly came after a National Executive Council meeting of MACBAN.

According to widespread media reports, Gotomo had stated that the attacks would persist, citing what he described as ongoing injustice against herders in the state.

Responding firmly, the PPF, a socio-political advocacy group, criticized the statement, describing it as “an open admission of complicity in the violence that had claimed thousands of lives across Plateau’s rural communities.”

Imman called for Gotomo’s immediate arrest and prosecution, stressing that the statement implied direct responsibility by MACBAN members for the killings.

“Gotomo’s comments are not only reckless and inflammatory but amount to an open confession. We therefore call on the security agencies to immediately invite and investigate him. No individual or group should be allowed to make such dangerous utterances without consequences,” Imman said.

He further appealed for swift, coordinated intervention from the government, security agencies, and community leaders to curb the violence and bring all perpetrators and instigators to justice.

“We therefore also call for an urgent, coordinated action by security forces, government authorities, and community leaders to stem the tide of violence and hold accountable those who incite or participate in bloodshed,” he added.
