Despite internal disagreements within the People’s Democratic Party, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has asserted that the party remains united and committed to providing good governance in Nigeria.
His Plateau State counterpart, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, also reassured party supporters that the PDP governors and key stakeholders are working together to re-strategize, stabilise the party, and restore hope to Nigerians.
The two governors made these statements on Friday in Jos, Plateau State, during a strategic meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum, where they gathered to discuss the future of the party.
Governor Mohammed, who is the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, commended the unwavering support of party stakeholders and emphasised the PDP’s strength and unity. He described the party as an indivisible force, despite some minor issues, and assured Nigerians of the PDP’s commitment to good governance.
He said, “We are here on the Plateau, and Governor Mutfwang has shown us that Plateau is indeed a melting pot where everyone is welcome. The PDP remains an indivisible party. Despite minor hiccups, we are united with all organs and leaders of the party. We will continue to work together to provide Nigerians with opportunities for better governance.”
Governor Mohammed also expressed his gratitude to the governors and party members who travelled from across the country to attend the meeting in Plateau, describing it as an important event for recharting the party’s path.
He added, “We will continue to work together to provide Nigerians with opportunities for better governance.”
Governor Mutfwang echoed these sentiments, stressing the significance of the meeting in stabilising the party.
He said, “Even though this is primarily a meeting of governors, it is gratifying to see party leaders and stakeholders from various states filling this room to support the governors as we strategise to ensure not only the stability of our party but also its ability to continue providing hope to Nigerians.”
Mutfwang also highlighted Plateau State’s historical importance to the PDP, noting that it was the location of the party’s first convention and the election of the first president of the Fourth Republic. He referred to Plateau as the “home of the PDP” and spoke proudly of the recent successes of his administration.
“By the grace of God, after years of miserable leadership by the opposition on the Plateau, the people have welcomed their party back. The PDP and I are determined to improve the lives of our people and fulfil the party’s mandate of social justice and empowerment,” he said.
Oyo State Governor and Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Seyi Makinde, also reassured supporters of the PDP’s commitment to reforming the party and restoring its leadership role in Nigeria.
Other notable figures at the event included Governors Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Kefas Agbu (Taraba), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), the Deputy Governors of Bayelsa, Enugu, and Plateau States, PDP Acting National Chairman Illiya Damagum, former Plateau Governor Senator Jonah Jang, former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, former Niger State Governor Mu’azu Aliyu, and Chairman of the PDP Ministers’ Forum Kabiru Turaki, along with other key stakeholders.
The meeting reaffirmed the PDP’s unity and its commitment to good governance, demonstrating the collective strength and experience of the party’s leadership.
