Former Anambra State Governor and the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, is threatening legal action against renowned Nigerian human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, over allegedly defamatory statements.

Obi’s legal representatives at EJESIMEN & CO MADIBA CHAMBERS, SAN, claim that Adeyanju repeatedly made derogatory remarks about the former governor on X and other social media platforms, tarnishing his reputation.

The legal notice highlights a post from August 21, where Adeyanju accused Obi of misappropriating funds from the Anambra State treasury to invest in his family business.

In the post, Adeyanju stated, “I met with the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party and he tried to give me money and called it thank you for coming, it’s 100% true.”

Obi’s lawyers are demanding a public retraction of the alleged defamatory comments and an unreserved apology from Adeyanju.

Responding via his official Facebook page on Wednesday night, Adeyanju declared his readiness to face Obi in court.

He wrote, “I can’t wait to meet him in court finally. A fraud parading himself as a messiah.”

A staunch critic of Obi, Deji Adeyanju has consistently argued that the former governor may never ascend to Nigeria’s presidency and has frequently clashed online with Obi’s supporters, known as Obidients, over posts he considers “unfavorable.”

In a recent Facebook post, Adeyanju maintained his stance, asserting that it is too late for Obi to be elected President of Nigeria.
