Several commuters sustained varying degrees of injuries on Monday after a commercial bus collided with a Toyota Camry on the Third Mainland Bridge, causing the bus to somersault repeatedly.
According to The PUNCH, the incident occurred near Adekunle Junction, inward Lagos Island, and resulted in a swift response from security and emergency personnel.
According to a statement shared by the Rapid Response Squad, the crash happened when both vehicles were in motion, and the commercial bus lost control following the collision.
“A commercial bus and a Toyota Camry were involved in an accident before Adekunle Junction.
The bus somersaulted several times, leaving many passengers injured,” the RRS disclosed.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, noting that the somersaults caused panic among road users.
“It was terrifying. The bus kept tumbling, and people were screaming for help. Thankfully, emergency responders arrived on time,” said a motorist who witnessed the crash.
Patrol teams and bikers from the RRS quickly arrived at the scene to administer first aid to the victims. Officers from the Adekunle Police Division were also on ground to support rescue efforts.
“Our operatives immediately provided first aid to the injured and ensured that the scene was secured,” the RRS added.
Emergency medical teams were also deployed, and all injured individuals were attended to promptly. Authorities confirmed that, despite the severity of the crash, no fatalities were recorded.
“The affected vehicles have since been cleared, and normal traffic flow has resumed on that axis,” the RRS concluded.
