Partey to join Villarreal after Arsenal exit

Thomas Partey is on the verge of completing a move to Spanish side Villarreal following his departure from Arsenal as a free agent.

The Ghanaian midfielder wrapped up his five-year stay at the Emirates at the close of the 2024/25 campaign, having featured 167 times for the Gunners and playing a key role in their close title challenges.

Despite efforts from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to extend his contract, no agreement was reached, leading to Partey’s exit.

The 32-year-old attracted interest from several European clubs before Villarreal secured an agreement to sign him on a one-year deal, according to reports from Spain.

The Yellow Submarine, who finished fifth in La Liga last season, are expected to finalise the signing next week, with Partey already approving the move.

He is set to reunite with his former Arsenal teammate Nicolas Pepe at the club.

Meanwhile, following his Arsenal departure, Partey was recently charged with multiple sexual offence allegations by the Metropolitan Police, said to have occurred in 2021 and 2022.
