The Osun State House of Assembly has passed a bill seeking to amend key sections of the state’s local government law, according to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The legislation, titled the “Osun State Local Government Amendment No. 2 Bill 2026,” was approved on Monday after it scaled through the third reading during plenary in Osogbo.
Presenting the committee’s findings before the passage, the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Mr Lawal Bamidele, submitted the report along with the recommended adjustments.
“The committee has carefully reviewed the provisions and hereby submits its recommendations for consideration,” Bamidele stated while presenting the report.
Following the submission, the Speaker of the House, Mr Adewale Egbedun, requested that lawmakers adopt the report. The Majority Leader, Mr Babajide Adewumi, moved the motion for its adoption.
“I move that the report be adopted as presented,” Adewumi said before the House approved it.
Adewumi also moved the motion for the bill to be read for the third time, which the Assembly granted, leading to its eventual passage.
After the bill was approved, Egbedun announced that clean copies would be transmitted to Governor Ademola Adeleke for assent.
“The clean copies will be forwarded to the governor for his approval,” the Speaker said.
According to NAN, the amendment seeks to update the Osun State Local Government Law, Cap 72 Vol. IV, Laws of Osun State 2002, along with other related provisions.
The Assembly adjourned plenary until March 2.
