Former vice presidential spokesperson, Laolu Akande, has expressed surprise over the ongoing ‘political solution’ being sought after by politicians of the South East for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
According to Akande, who spoke during an interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, considering the boldness of Nnamdi Kanu, it is surprising he has settled for a political solution rather than proving his innocence in the court.
He said, “I think that Mr. Nnamdi Kanu should be bold enough to check out these things in court but apparently he’s not.
“With the senators now meeting the Attorney-general, you know, I think we should see the way it goes. But, you know, you would have expected somebody with the kind of courage and boldness of Nnamdi Kanu, you would have expected him say “let’s prove these things in court… let’s go and…whether indeed you’ve broken the law…” but I’m surprised he’s trying to get a political solution.
“I would have expected him, based on what we know about him to say that “look! Let’s go to court” but he wants a political solution and I’m told that he’s even committed to ‘any kind of condition’, I’m surprised by that.”
Recently, the governors from the South East agreed to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to plead for Kanu’s release. Also, the senators from the same region met with the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, on Thursday to seek for his release on ‘any kind of condition’.
Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since June 2021, following his re-arrest.
