Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Victor Osimhen’s leadership approach, cautioning that exceptional talent should not give anyone the liberty to disrupt team harmony.
Oliseh praised Osimhen’s world-class ability but criticized his public criticism of teammate Ademola Lookman, arguing that it negatively affected the team’s cohesion.
“We’re confusing talent with license,” Oliseh remarked. “Victor Osimhen is world class, but talent is not a license to destroy team chemistry.”
The former captain explained that Nigeria’s attacking prowess suffered following Osimhen’s outburst, highlighting Lookman’s decline in performance.
“Since that public outburst against Ademola Lookman, Lookman became a shadow of himself and we lost the bite,” Oliseh said. “When you publicly finish your teammates, you break their spirit. You break the confidence a team needs.”
Oliseh emphasized the importance of having every key player perform at their best, particularly with the Super Eagles preparing to face a tactically disciplined Moroccan side in the semifinals.
