Organisers unveil new route for Lagos City marathon

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon is set to enter an exciting new chapter as organisers unveil a completely redesigned route for its 11th edition, scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026.

For the first time in the history of Africa’s premier road race, the 42km marathon will kick off at ORCA Mall on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, wind through parts of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, and conclude at the iconic Eko Atlantic City.

The revamped course is designed to position Lagos as the vibrant heart of road racing on the continent.

Organisers say the strategic route change ushers in a new decade for the marathon, focusing on enhanced athlete experience, modern infrastructure, and a refreshed race narrative that highlights Lagos as a fast-rising global city.

After ten editions along a familiar course that has become ingrained in Nigeria’s sporting culture, the organisers note that the updated route honours the marathon’s storied legacy while injecting fresh energy, intrigue, and spectacle for runners, spectators, and international audiences.

The addition of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road also offers runners and viewers a stunning glimpse of one of Nigeria’s most ambitious infrastructure projects, all within the context of a World Athletics Gold Label event broadcast worldwide.

“The 11th edition is not just another race; it represents evolution,” said Mrs Yetunde Olopade, the MD/CEO of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, owners of ABLCM.

“The new route allows us to reimagine the marathon experience while staying true to our values of excellence, safety, and world-class delivery.”
