Ondo govt confirms release of abducted boy, hails security agencies

The Ondo State Government has confirmed the release of nine-year-old Victor Oluwatobi, who was abducted by gunmen in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area, three weeks ago.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, announced the development during a press briefing, expressing appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his prompt response and commitment throughout the period of the boy’s captivity.

“The Governor’s swift intervention provided hope and reassurance to the family of the victim, the people of Idogun, and residents across Ose Local Government Area,” Ajanaku said.

Victor was reportedly kidnapped on June 5, 2026, when armed men invaded Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun at about midnight.

According to the commissioner, the attackers damaged two buildings while attempting to abduct the landlords. However, after their intended targets escaped, the gunmen seized the young boy during the ensuing confusion.

Ajanaku explained that the child’s freedom was secured through the coordinated efforts of security personnel who worked relentlessly to ensure his safe return.

“Immediately after the incident, the state government mobilised the Army, Police, Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes to intensify search operations across forests and neighbouring communities in pursuit of the kidnappers,” he said.

The commissioner commended the security agencies for their professionalism, dedication, and sacrifice throughout the operation.
