Ondo gov sends new tax bill to assembly

Ondo State Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has submitted a new tax bill to the state House of Assembly for legislative consideration, ahead of the federal government’s implementation of a new tax law starting January 1, 2026.

The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, announced the development following the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday.

A statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, confirmed that Governor Aiyedatiwa presided over the meeting.

Ajulo explained that the new bill is designed to harmonize Ondo State’s fiscal policies with the national Nigeria Tax Act 2025 and its associated reforms.

He added that the proposed tax framework aims to foster economic growth, enhance public services, and create a fairer tax environment.

“It will also provide relief for low-income earners and support small businesses, integrating Ondo State into the evolving national tax landscape,” Ajulo said.

The Attorney General urged the public to engage in the legislative process and provide constructive feedback to ensure the bill meets the needs of all stakeholders.
