Okpebholo urges Edo APC unity for 2027 victory

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has urged members and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Edo Central Senatorial District to close ranks and work together to ensure the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.

According to The Punch, the governor made the appeal on Thursday during separate engagements with APC leaders, party members, support groups and other stakeholders in Esan Central Local Government Area, stressing that unity remained essential to the party’s continued progress and electoral victories.

The meetings, held at his residence and the Okaijesan Town Hall in Irrua, formed part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion within the party, address concerns raised by members and galvanise support ahead of the July 11, 2026 local government election and the 2027 presidential poll.

Among those present were APC chairmanship candidates for the forthcoming local government election and 51 councillorship candidates from the five local government areas that make up Edo Central Senatorial District.

Okpebholo also interacted with members of the Esan Central Bike/Keke Riders Association, the Edo Women Ambassadors for Renewed Hope Agenda (EWARHA), Edo Central chapter, as well as representatives of the Arewa community in the district.

Speaking during the engagements, the governor called on party faithful to set aside personal interests and differences in pursuit of a common political goal.

“Politics is all about give and take. I called this meeting to see faces I have not seen for a long time. This is the time to tell ourselves the truth, and seeing you here shows that I am supported.

“This is time for the All Progressives Congress in Edo Central Senatorial District to remain united and committed to securing victory for the party in the 2027 general elections,” he added.

Okpebholo expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu would enjoy overwhelming support from Edo State in the next presidential election, citing what he described as the positive impact of the administration’s policies and programmes across the country.

He praised the Federal Government’s ongoing infrastructure projects in Edo State, particularly the rehabilitation of the Ekpoma-Ehor Road, noting that the project had enhanced movement of people and goods while boosting economic activities.

The governor also defended the removal of fuel subsidy by the Tinubu administration, describing it as a necessary but difficult policy aimed at freeing resources for national development.

During his meeting with transport operators, he pledged support for their association and encouraged members to contribute to the APC’s electoral ambitions in future elections.

Addressing members of EWARHA, Okpebholo disclosed that Nigeria’s First Lady would soon visit Edo State to provide business support loans to women as part of efforts to improve their economic wellbeing.

Also speaking, the APC Deputy State Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh, called on party members to remain steadfast in their support for the government and intensify efforts toward securing victory in both the local government elections and the 2027 general elections.

According to him, maintaining the party’s political dominance is crucial to sustaining developmental strides currently being recorded across key sectors of the Edo State economy.
