A daughter of veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has dismissed reports circulating on social media that the 66-year-old actor has died.
The rumour surfaced on Tuesday after a Facebook user claimed that one of Ogogo’s daughters had announced his death following alleged difficulties in accessing medical treatment.
However, another daughter of the actor, Lima Taiwo, described the report as false and appealed to the public to stop circulating it.
Lima, in a post on Instagram, wrote, “This is false!!!!!!! This is false!!!!! This is false!!!!! This is false!!! THIS IS FAKE… PLEASE STOP SPREADING FAKE NEWS.”
Her clarification came a day after she and her sister, Kira Taiwo, publicly appealed for medical assistance for their father, who is battling cancer.
In an emotional video shared on Instagram on Monday, Lima disclosed that Ogogo’s health had deteriorated significantly and alleged that some hospitals had stopped treating him.
She appealed to hospitals, medical professionals and individuals with access to cancer treatment facilities to come to the family’s aid.
According to her, the family only discovered the seriousness of the actor’s condition about three weeks ago, as his physical appearance had initially not suggested the severity of his illness.
Lima stressed that the family was not asking for financial assistance but needed medical support to secure treatment for their father.
In a separate video, Kira revealed that Ogogo had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer and said the hospital currently treating him had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered.
She appealed to cancer specialists, hospitals and other healthcare professionals who could provide treatment to contact the family.
Kira said she remained determined to explore every available option to get medical help for her father.
The daughters’ appeals have since attracted attention from members of the public and colleagues in the Nigerian entertainment industry, with several people rallying support for the veteran actor.
Meanwhile, Lima’s latest clarification has urged members of the public to disregard the death report and refrain from spreading unverified information about Ogogo’s condition.
