The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has expressed deep concern over the disappearance of one of its students, Dorcas Oseghale, and has called for public assistance in locating her.
Oseghale, a Chemistry undergraduate with matriculation number CHM/2021/165, was last seen on the evening of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, around 8 p.m., when she reportedly left her residence at Adesanmi House along Ibadan Road to buy food near the students’ village on Ede Road.
According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, Dorcas never returned, and repeated calls to her two phone numbers proved unsuccessful.
“When her roommate noticed she had been gone for too long, she tried to reach her by phone but found both lines unreachable,” Olanrewaju said in a statement on Sunday.
He explained that by the afternoon of August 7, the school’s security unit began monitoring online student discussions after receiving a missing person report. Later that day, a group of Chemistry students, accompanied by Dorcas’s roommate, officially reported the matter to campus security.
“Due to the complexity of the case and our limitations in manpower and resources, three security officers were assigned to work with the students and then hand over preliminary findings to the police,” Olanrewaju added.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Simeon Bamire commended the students for acting quickly after noticing their colleague’s absence.
“I appreciate the vigilance and proactiveness of our students,” Bamire said.
“We urge the police and other security agencies to do everything possible to help us find Dorcas. Anyone with credible information about her whereabouts should report to the nearest police station or our campus security unit.”
The university is appealing to members of the public to provide any information that could assist in the ongoing search.
