NYSC shifts Sokoto, Niger orientation camp opening to August 12

The National Youth Service Corps has postponed the commencement of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course in Sokoto and Niger states.

The adjustment was attributed to ongoing renovation and rehabilitation works at the NYSC orientation camps in the two states.

The NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, disclosed the development in a statement posted on the scheme’s official X handle on Friday.

According to the statement, the orientation exercise, originally scheduled to begin earlier, will now commence on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

The swearing-in and cut-off ceremony has been scheduled for Friday, August 14, while the closing ceremony will hold on Tuesday, September 1.

The NYSC explained that the extension became necessary because the renovation of the orientation camps, being undertaken by the respective state governments, was still ongoing.

“The Management of the National Youth Service Corps wishes to announce the extension of the commencement date for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course in Sokoto and Niger States,” the statement said.

It added that the decision was “due to the ongoing renovation works in both Orientation Camps by their respective State Governments.”

The scheme urged prospective corps members posted to Sokoto and Niger to adjust their travel plans in line with the new schedule.

It also cautioned them against travelling at night, stressing the importance of safety as they make their way to the orientation camps.

“All Prospective Corps Members are advised to avoid embarking on night travels to their Orientation Camps,” the NYSC stated.

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, wished the prospective corps members safe journeys and urged them to make the necessary preparations ahead of the commencement of the orientation exercise.
