The National Youth Service Corps has fixed Wednesday, January 21, 2026, as the commencement date for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course nationwide.
The scheme disclosed this in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, noting that activities will take place across all 37 NYSC orientation camps in the country.
According to the statement, registration of prospective corps members will begin on Wednesday, January 21, and end at midnight on Friday, January 23, 2026.
“Camp registration for all corps members will take place from Wednesday, 21st January, to midnight of Friday, 23rd January, 2026,” the NYSC said.
It added that the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Friday, January 23, while the orientation exercise will officially end with a closing ceremony on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, advised prospective corps members to prioritise their safety during the journey to their states of deployment.
“He urged all prospective corps members to avoid night travel and wished them a safe journey to their various orientation camps,” the statement read.
The management of the scheme also called on corps members to comply strictly with the orientation timetable to ensure a hitch-free programme.
Established in 1973 after the Nigerian Civil War, the NYSC scheme is aimed at promoting national unity and integration. The three-week orientation course serves as the foundation of the service year.
During the camp period, corps members participate in paramilitary drills, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training, lectures on national development, and cultural activities designed to foster interaction across ethnic and religious lines.
